Our commitment
Bright Hands Assisted Living is committed to making this website usable by everyone, including older adults, people with disabilities, and people using assistive technology. We target the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as our standard of conformance, and we test against it as we build and update the site.
What we do
Specific things we do to support assistive technology and accessible browsing:
- Every meaningful image has descriptive alternative text.
- Every form field has an associated label, not just placeholder text.
- Page structure uses real heading levels (h1 through h3) in order, so screen-reader heading navigation works the way it’s supposed to.
- The site is navigable with a keyboard - the visible focus ring is preserved on links and buttons, and there’s a "Skip to main content" link at the top of every page.
- Color contrast targets WCAG AA ratios for body text and interactive elements.
- The site respects
prefers-reduced-motion; scroll-triggered animations are minimized for visitors who request reduced motion in their operating system settings. - Every page declares a
langattribute and serves valid HTML. - Phone numbers, email links, and tour-booking flows are usable without JavaScript - the site renders meaningful content even with scripts disabled.
Known limitations
We’re not perfect, and we’d rather tell you than hide it:
- The tour-booking calendar is an embedded third-party widget (Cal.com). We’ve confirmed it supports keyboard navigation and screen readers, but if you have trouble booking through the widget, please call us at 301-871-1021 and we’ll book the tour with you directly.
- Some long-form guides use decorative motion (reveal-on-scroll). These are automatically disabled for visitors who set
prefers-reduced-motionat the OS level. - If you find a chart or table that’s hard to parse, let us know - we’ll either rewrite it as a list or describe it in surrounding text.
How to report a barrier
If you encounter something on this site that you can’t access or use, we want to know. Email brighthandsassistedliving@gmail.com or call 301-871-1021 and describe what you ran into - the page you were on, what you tried to do, and what assistive technology you were using if applicable. We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within two business days and resolve issues within thirty days when fixes are within our control.
In-home accessibility
For the physical home: Bright Hands is a single-story residence with grab bars in bathrooms, wheelchair-accessible doorways and pathways throughout the common areas, and a step-free entry. We provide reasonable accommodations for residents and visitors with disabilities consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Fair Housing Act. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin.
